The building types behind these studies.

Why these studies matter

  • Proven in real buildings.Campuses, retail estates, housing and offices, with results measured on site and published by the manufacturer.
  • Available in Canada.Cool Estate brings each of these technologies to Canadian buildings, from first conversation to rollout.

Facil.AI · Chiller plant optimisation software

    CSU Dominguez Hills

Customer: California State University, Dominguez Hills

47%total plant efficiency improvement, 0.86 to 0.45 kW/ton from the 2022 baseline to the post-AI average, as reported by Facil.AI

    Context
The campus chilled water plant runs three 1,000-ton York YMC2 chillers and four cooling towers under a Johnson Controls Metasys system. The team wanted further efficiency without major capital work.
    Approach
Facil.AI connected through the existing Metasys system. It began with condenser water temperature reset, replacing a fixed rule with adaptive control, then optimised the plant as a whole.
    Reported outcome
    Facil.AI reports total plant efficiency moving from a 2022 baseline of 0.86 kW/ton to a post-AI average of 0.45 kW/ton.

    Facil.AI · RTU optimisation software

    Retail rooftop optimisation

Customer: A national retail chain (not named by Facil.AI)

11%energy savings, as reported by Facil.AI

    Context
The chain runs nearly 1,000 locations with more than 6,000 rooftop units. Its facilities team wanted lower energy use without taking on more monitoring work.
    Approach
Facil.AI connected through the chain's existing network-controlled thermostats by cloud integration, with no new hardware, and adjusted rooftop unit operation continuously.
    Reported outcome
Facil.AI reports 11% energy savings and hot and cold comfort calls cut in half. Its article reports cost savings over 90 days and states IPMVP Option C measurement and verification.

    Small-box retail optimisation

Customer: A national small-box discount retailer (not named by Facil.AI)

$2.5Maverage annual savings per year, as reported by Facil.AI

503%average monthly ROI, monthly savings against the monthly SaaS fee

    Context
Two staff and an outside consultant monitored building systems by hand and reacted to problems after they occurred. The estate now runs to more than 1,800 stores and 5,000 rooftop units.
    Approach
Facil.AI connected cloud to cloud with the existing smart thermostat system, with no on-site hardware, and models and adjusts each zone individually. Deployment has been ongoing since June 2022.
    Reported outcome
Facil.AI reports average annual savings of $2.5 million per year, with average monthly energy savings of 10% across the deployment.

    CSU Channel Islands

Customer: California State University, Channel Islands

1.15 to 0.6kW/ton average plant efficiency, before and after, as reported by Facil.AI

    Context
A 21-building, 1.3 million sq ft campus faced budget pressure with a lean facilities team. Two JCI York chillers (620 and 680 tons) run under an Automated Logic building automation system.
    Approach
Guided by Apex Consulting, the campus added Facil.AI as software on its existing Automated Logic WebCtrl system. It observed the plant first, then made small, incremental adjustments.
    Reported outcome
Facil.AI reports average plant efficiency moving from 1.15 to 0.6 kW/ton within 45 days. This is a plant efficiency measure, not whole-campus energy savings.
